12. Shopify App & Storefront Widget
This section explains how we collect and use data when a merchant installs the Pushbells app on their Shopify store, and when shoppers use the Pushbells alert widget on that store. It applies in addition to the rest of this Privacy Policy.
12.1 Data We Collect
From shoppers (a merchant's customers), when they subscribe to an alert:
- Email address and/or mobile phone number (depending on the channel chosen)
- The product or variant they want to be alerted about
- Their alert preference (for example, a target price, or "notify me when back in stock")
- Language/locale and the store the request came from
- A browser or mobile-app push token, if they enable web push or app notifications
- Subscription and delivery timestamps and status
From merchants: store domain and identifier, contact details, plan and usage data, and the widget and notification settings they configure.
From the store, via the Shopify Admin API: product and variant data including price and inventory/stock status (used to detect price drops and restocks), store locales and markets, and theme data (to render the storefront widget).
Automatically generated: operational logs of app usage, notification delivery status, and errors, used to run, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
We collect the minimum data needed to provide the app. We do not request or access Shopify "protected customer data" such as customer account records, orders, checkout, or payment data — our access scopes are limited to products, inventory, themes, locales, and markets.
12.2 How We Use It
- To deliver the alerts a shopper asked for, over the channel they chose (email, SMS, web push, or the Pushbells mobile app)
- To provide merchants with aggregated demand and notification analytics
- To operate, secure, support, and improve the service, and to bill usage
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use shopper contact details for our own marketing.
12.3 Our Role (Controller / Processor)
For personal data collected from shoppers on a merchant's store, the merchant is the data controller and Pushbells acts as a data processor on the merchant's behalf, processing that data only to provide the service. We make a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) available to merchants on request.
12.4 Subprocessors
We share data only with service providers who help us run the app:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, storage, and compute (including Amazon SES for email)
- Twilio — SMS delivery
- Google BigQuery — analytics processing
- Google Firebase — mobile app push notifications and app sign-in
- Shopify — the platform the app runs on
12.5 Consent, Retention & Your Rights
Shoppers opt in by subscribing to an alert, and can unsubscribe at any time, which stops processing and triggers deletion. We keep a shopper's data only as long as their subscription is active or as needed to provide the service, and delete it on unsubscribe, on request, or when the merchant uninstalls the app. We honor Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks — customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact. To exercise a right, contact support@pushbells.com.
